Voices of La Crosse: Racial (in)Justice

Learning about our community's local Black history is important. To help you out, the LPL Archives & Local History Department has compiled a list of resources available at the Library and online to learn more about our local history, which you can find here with other resources for unlearning racism: Learning is Activism: Exploring Race, Whiteness, and Justice.

While you seek out information of the past, it's good to also check in with the current conditions for our Black community members. To help you learn about the everyday, lived experiences of our Black community, the LPL Archives partnered with Hear, Here to create a tour featuring recorded stories that give examples of anti-Black racism and Black organization in La Crosse. We encourage you to reflect on what you hear in this tour. Let these narrators guide you in learning more about our community and what you can do to center Black voices in La Crosse.

The map below will guide you, whether you are downtown while listening to these stories, or participating from the comfort of your home.
